Meet Kalvin and James, your 2021 Creative Industries Faculty Councillors!
Hi everyone! My name is Kalvin, and I am currently in my 4th year of my Bachelor of Design majoring in Interactive and Visual Design. A bit of background on me: I am a very passionate advocate for the representation and respect for the CI community! I believe strongly in the value that artist, designers, and any kind of creative should have on their own creations. I have given my time to many areas of CI to help elevate the CI faculty. I have worked within the CI Society for the last few years, giving opportunities to our members while also having fun! I also have experience in holding exhibitions, and I mean… what CI student doesn’t love a good old’ exhibition?
Hi there! My name is James and I’m entering the first year of a Master of Philosophy, researching student-run record labels and music entrepreneurship. Last year I finished a Bachelor of Business (Public Relations)/Bachelor of Creative Industries (Music), and over the four years I spent on that degree I immersed myself in all things music. In addition to writing, recording and releasing music through my band Sir & Lydia, I have run QUT’s record label Vermilion Records, worked as a music publicist, and was part of the programming team for Brisbane Festival 2020. Ultimately, my main passion is providing opportunity to artists and to emerging creative practitioners. I’ve seen the ways in which opportunities are denied to CI students by some members of the university admin, and I’m excited to get in and strive for better.
