The Progress party has secured a majority of executive positions in the 2025 QUT Guild elections, following the provisional declaration of the poll released on 13 October.
Caleb McGiffin from Progress has been elected President, with Samuel Hulls also from the same ticket taking on the position of Vice President (Secretary). The role of Vice President (Treasurer) will be filled by Matt Bloder from Momentum.
The results reflect a mixed composition across the Guild’s leadership, with several parties represented across key portfolios. Georgie Dobbs (Left Action Free Palestine!) has been elected Education Officer, while Isaac Oliver (Elevate) will serve as Welfare Officer. Miles Hirst (Progress) has been elected Engagement Officer, and Geoffrey Latz (Progress) will take on the Clubs and Societies portfolio.
Yuanyi Tham (Left Action Free Palestine!) will serve as Environment Officer, Keely McConnell (Elevate) as Women’s Officer, Rajinder Singh (Momentum) as International Students Officer, and Vaibhavi (V) Bisht (Momentum) as Postgraduate Students Officer.
The Media portfolio will be jointly held by Riley Bampton, Cobin Gooding, Kit Moke, Alex Cameron, and Jasmin Asifiwe, who will oversee Glass Magazine for the 2026 term.
In the National Union of Students (NUS) delegate elections, Left Action Free Palestine! achieved a strong result, winning four delegate positions. Isabella Foley, Georgie Dobbs, Erin Milne, and Yuanyi Tham were elected as representatives, alongside Progress members Caleb McGiffin and Samuel Hulls, and Ansh Gupta (Independent).
A number of positions were elected unopposed, including Lauren (Ren) Johnstone as Queer Officer, Mimi Lewis as First Nations Officer, and Felix Park Weir as Disability Officer. Faculty-based councillors were also elected unopposed, including Elowyn Gampe for Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice, Ethan Johnstone and Caitlin Brennan for Health, Chan Nguyen and Alex Bradbury for Engineering, and Georgina Marmol for Business and Law.
The provisional results were declared by Returning Officer Peter Travers, with appeals open for two working days following the announcement. The newly elected representatives will formally commence their terms in early 2026.
