Battle of the Bands Heat Three: Soliel V Hazy

Here is Heat Three’s summary coming to you hot!

After being blasted with hardcore rock bands these past two Heats, this week brought a fresh dose of slow songs that had everyone swaying to the melody. For all the rock fans, don’t worry, there was still plenty to go around that night.

Here’s a refresher about Battle of the Bands: it’s a live music showdown down at the Botanic Bar, every Tuesday until week 7. Think: The Voice or X Factor.  Except our lovely audience gets to play judge as well and vote for their favourite act.

Today is the last Heat and from then on, competition will get tighter during the semi-finals – fan favourites pitted against each other! You’ll need another minute or two before casting your vote.

The Bands:

Starting off with Soleil, yep the French word for sun. Isn’t that cute? This indie-folk band consists of four members, the bubbly lead singer Sophie,  Nicholas Woodhead on drums, and the two guitarists Matthew Alamo and Callum Price.

The band definitely lived up to their name, brightening up the bar with their setlist. Enchanting the crowd with slow folk songs, then turning the atmosphere in on itself during the second half with a more upbeat style — Soleil made it known that they have range!

Remember how there was plenty of rock to go around that night? For those who care about semantics, they’re specifically grunge.

Hazy took the stage and if there was a word to describe their sound, it’d be funky, with all the love of course. They went hard on stage, their energy left nowhere untouched  — infectious!

Their setlist was about what you’d expect: indie-punk-rock, and they finished up with a sexier song. What’s a sexy song without a little brass? A trumpet made a surprise appearance and left everyone feeling good that night.

The Judgement

Voting is decided equally by the judges, special guests, and the audience, where no one’s vote holds more weight than the other’s. You each get one vote from the pink token handed out on arrival — look out for our iconic Botanic Bar staff! For the record, this week’s special guest was (name).

It was another landslide win this week with Hazy taking the crown!

Having debuted in 2024, will they make a name for themselves through the Battle of the Bands?

Find out in the semi-finals next week!

What’s next?

This is the last Heat before the semi-finals begin. It’s Mums Cardigan Vs Avista Plush.

More familiar faces here and you decide their fate. Come with all the power in your hands (and maybe a fireball) for one of the final showdowns.
