Hello everyone! I am Milani Rawlinson, and I am running for re-election as the 2025 Environment Officer. To begin, I am the current Environment Officer as well as a second-year Environmental science student.
I have loved being the Environment Officer! This year I have organised events for Cleanup Australia Day and Australia’s Biggest Morning tea. I also helped run the Clothes for Careers event. This event had a significant impact, with the project collecting preloved business clothing from QUT alumni and giving it to students for free. This project prevented the clothing from entering landfill and allowed students to have the right clothing for job interviews in a cost-of-living crisis. This project is now a finalist in the 2024 Green Gowns Awards.
There has been significant change within the Guild this year with constant change of leadership. This year I also did a month as interim Secretary; through this I learnt how I could assist everyone most efficiently. Despite these changes, I have shown resilience to stand up for the rights of students.
If I am re-elected, I wish to continue working on the initiatives I have planned for next year and ensure the stability of the QUT Guild. As I will be entering my final year of my degree, I want to ensure my skills as an environmental scientist are felt throughout the QUT community. My plan for the coming year is to finalise my current projects, such as the reduction of plastics at the QUT graduation, the community garden space on campus, and advocating for government action against climate change.
Overall, I care for the QUT Community and would like to have the opportunity to strengthen the environmental consciousness and wellbeing of students within the QUT community. Please feel free to contact me at Milani.Rawlinson@connect.qut.edu.au.
