Breakups are always tough. Grabbing some wine and crying with your friends can help for a while, but once you’re back home, the familiar loneliness creeps in again. Scrolling endlessly through Netflix to find a movie that truly speaks to your mind always takes time. So here it is – my top 3 healing movies for the worst breakup ever!
- La La Land / 2016
What happened when you’re forced to choose between love and your dreams? Sometimes reality tells us you can’t have both.
La La Land is one of those movies that hits differently depending on your emotional state. I found it healing and empowering after ending a 3-year relationship that fell apart because of diverging life paths. Mia and Seb are dream-pursuers, just like many of us in our 20s.
There is no such thing as the “right people, wrong time” theory. Some people come into your life to help you grow, not to stay. Right people always show up at the right time. Believe me, after watching La La Land, you’ll realise what I’m talking about.
- How to Be Single / 2016
As the title, this movie teaches you how to really be single, not the kind of “waiting until the next person comes along” single.
Alice dates all kinds of men, only to realise that the most important thing is to love herself. You won’t truly find “the one” until you connect deeply with who you are, understand what you genuinely desire, and know what you are looking for in a relationship.
This is the movie I’ll recommend to you first if you don’t want to overthink – just something to comfort and heal you for the night.
- One Day / 2011
Want to cry your heart out? This is the perfect tragic love story for you. You realise sometimes life isn’t always as simple and fair as we thought. One Day takes you through 20 years of love, loss, and everything in between. Emma and Dexter – two people who keep missing their moments – show us love isn’t always timely.
“Let go, grow and move on” is the powerful lesson One Day is going to teach you.
These movies, alongside a substantial amount of popcorn and chocolate, will hold your hand through the healing process. Remember, your pain is finite xx.
