Transition at the Student Guild: President resigns

Student Guild President, Aaron Bui, has resigned from his role after serving five months in the position.

Bui ran on the REFORM ticket in the 2023 Guild elections, and previously served as the Post Graduate Officer.

Bui stated that he resigned to focus on finishing his post graduate studies before his supervisor relocates later in the year.

“I enjoyed my time at the Guild. It was very rewarding to work with a team who are just as passionate as I am about making students’ lives better,” he said.

Chair of the Board of Directors Olivia Brumm thanked Bui for his dedication and leadership during his time as President of the Guild.

“While his decision to resign to meet this timeframe for completing his PhD is a loss for us, we fully support his commitment to his academic pursuits.

“We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will be taking the necessary steps to elect a new president who will continue to advance the interests of our student body.”

In addition to Bui’s resignation, Secretary Juliet Veskova has also resigned from her position and Treasurer Archer Skinner is currently on three weeks leave.

Current Queer Officer Eli Spencer will take over as interim president until the Guild is able to advertise and elect a new president.

“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to our outgoing President for his exemplary leadership and dedication to the Guild. His contributions will be deeply missed.

“I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our former Secretary, whose unwavering dedication and passion were invaluable. Their service has been truly commendable.”

During this transitional period, he said he will be focusing on ensuring a smooth continuation with ongoing support from the SRC, collaborate with our highly skilled GPS to develop a solid plan for the future, and to dedicate himself to understanding the intricacies of the president’s office for the benefit of our vibrant student community.

“While this leadership change may be unexpected, I want to assure students of my strong commitment to providing excellent representation for our Guild.”

If you are interested in running for president or secretary, make sure you keep an eye on the Guild Noticeboard and look out for any casual vacancies.
