Hi, my name is Sam Hulls, I am a second-year student studying a Bachelor of Science.

Since enrolling at QUT, I have closely followed the Guild and the work they do to improve student life, such as the foodbank and Academic Advocacy. I believe that it is essential for student unions to provide services and programs that cater to everyday students, and for these students to have a progressive voice that will advocate for them. Additionally, I believe that it is equally as crucial to ensure the proper management of funds that allow for these services. It is for this reason that I have been inspired to run for the position of Treasurer, and to use my knowledge, values, and commitment to improve student welfare by enhancing programs and creating meaningful change.

With Guild funding allocations likely increasing from 25% to 40% next year, 2025 will be a pivotal year for the Guild and the Treasurer position, allowing for the unique opportunity to greatly improve student services and enhance campus life. This means increasing the amount of food stocked by the foodbank and hiring students to make it a more consistent and reliable service, more free meals during exams and high stress parts of the semester, more vouchers in emergency, more funding for clubs, more student run events, more Academic Advocacy and much more.

Essentially, I will be committed to ensuring that the funds we get go back into improving the lives of students, while fighting QUT to further increase the percentage we get. After all, it is student money.

Thank you for your consideration and support.
