Glass invited all Guild election candidates to submit a statement explaining why they are running and why they deserve your vote. This is your chance to hear directly from those who want to represent you—so take a moment to get to know their priorities and visions for the future.
Voting opens on Monday, 21st October 2024. You can check out the rest of the candidate statements here.
My name is Riley Bampton, and I’m running with the Peachy team in the Guild elections to be the 2024 editors of QUT’s student magazine, Glass.
Team Peachy is here to bring the juice. We’re all about making Glass vibrant, impactful, and something that gets every student talking and wanting to be involved. We are a team of passionate individuals who believe in shaking things up, making campus life less about surviving and more about thriving. We want to support students, boost the Guild’s profile, and make sure student voices are not just heard but celebrated. We’re here to make Glass the ultimate platform, one that builds community, amplifies creativity, and makes a difference in student life and opportunities.
A bit about me – I’m a 22-year-old creative writing student with an unending love for literature. I’ve contributed to Glass with pieces like the Obsessive Compulsive Memoir in the 2024 Winter issue, the book reviews of Crooked Seeds and The Cancer Finishing School, and the podcast episode Just to Be Clear: New York Times Best Sellers. I’ve also been part of the QUT Lit Salon, where I’ve had the chance to read my work and share stories with the creative community here.
I lean politically left, but when it comes to Glass, my focus is on presenting balanced, well-researched perspectives that serve the entire student community. I want to make sure Glass remains a platform that’s accessible to all, without bias or agenda.
My goal is to make Glass the best arts and culture magazine around, not just fun to read, but also meaningful and impactful. I want to create something that helps students build careers, grow creatively, and feel represented.
If I am elected with my team for Media Editors 2024, here’s what you can expect:
- We will ensure Glass is recognised not only across campus but also as a publication that holds the QUT legacy strong. Our goal is to make Glass stand out and reflect the diverse culture of our university.
- We want to grow the student journalism community at QUT, hosting bigger and better events that bring students together and elevate what Glass can offer.
