QUT Student Guild President Resigns

Late Thursday afternoon the QUT Student Guild President resigned from her position.

Secretary Aamna Asif announced the resignation in an email sent to the Student Representative Council at 4:30pm on Thursday afternoon.

“I am writing with great sadness to inform everyone that [the President] has resigned from her role… [She] was an invaluable asset to our organisation, and we are deeply grateful for her contributions. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

A statement was published to the official Guild Instagram page as an Instagram story after the SRC received word of the resignation.

The statement said the SRC supported the former President and recognised the work she had accomplished over the three years she worked as an office bearer.

The statement was removed shortly after it was published. It was not published by any of the Guild Professional Staff. Glass understands the official Student Guild social media accounts are managed by Guild Professional Staff, as well as the President.

On Friday morning, the statement was republished to the QUT Stalkerspace 2.1 Facebook page by Welfare Officer John Longwill.

Longwill said the statement was co-signed by Secretary Aamna Asif, Treasurer Usama Shafiq, Clubs and Societies Officer Madison Shepherd, Women’s Officer Sia Chandler-Hills, International Student Moin Rahman, Disability Officer Harley Manley, Post Grad Officer Aaron Bui and Education Officer Emme Muggleton.

At the time of publishing, the former President has not responded to Glass’ request for comment.
