2019 marks the 15th year of participation by QUT Motorsport in the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) – Australasia competition. Formed by students who share an interest in automotive design, the team has gone from strength to strength with the support of Queensland University of Technology and the Science and Engineering Faculty in developing cutting edge combustion and electric vehicles.
The team operates as an extra-curricular student project, drawing on knowledge from undergraduate and postgraduate students of varying disciplines. The project challenges students by requiring them to design, manufacture and compete with a small, open-wheeled vehicle, against numerous universities from around Australasia. QUT Motorsport team members are highly driven by the enthusiasm to extend their learning experience beyond the lecture room, and the desire to continually improve upon previous year’s results.
The team is currently in the process of developing a second iteration electric vehicle to compete in the Formula SAE-Electric competition. Electrical vehicles have allowed electrical and mechatronics students a greater opportunity to develop their knowledge and practical skills within the team, with the development of many in-house systems.
Please attend our weekly meetings in the Motorsport Lab O120 Gardens Point Campus, 5pm Wednesdays.
