Hi, my name is Isaac, and I’m running for the Welfare Officer, as an independent in the upcoming election. I’ve been involved in student politics since I was able to form coherent thoughts – it is extremely important to me and has been for such a long time. I value and understand the need for student advocacy within educational institutions who are sometimes out of touch with their student body.
At QUT, I am currently studying a Bachelor of Behavioural Science/Social Work which provides me with the knowledge to be an effective welfare officer. As welfare officer, I will aim to introduce initiatives that will combat the cost-of-living crisis for QUT students. One of my goals for this election is to collaborate with nutrition and food experts both within and around QUT spaces to create workshops that aim to help students do more with less money. I will also make sure to keep the food bank open to support students who continue to benefit from it.
I will actively motion for printing fees to be reduced or removed, drawing on my own experience from high school. This is necessary to support students who don’t have access to printing but still need the resources to adequately engage with their education. While not actively planning initiatives to combat the cost-of-living crisis, I will be working closely with other guild members to create events and start conversations with the intention of improving student wellbeing. I will also build stronger connections between the Guild collectives, clubs and societies.
Overall, as welfare officer, I want to improve and promote safe and accessible student wellbeing for all the students who are enrolled at QUT.
