Heaven

By DS

Heaven is a studio apartment
30 minutes away on the train
Pale and warm in the afternoon sun
was your face when I kissed you
on that bed
always perfectly made
“Put your full body weight on me,”
I plead

Heaven is a studio apartment
sometimes grey when it rains
I must’ve shed more tears on that day
than the thunderstorms you love so much
Your eyes were stoic,
I wished they would look at mine
Gently, like usual
without the cold gunmetal sheen

Heaven is a studio apartment
Overlooking the big night sky
We drank screwdrivers in the dark
Until the streets turned silent
And it was time for me to fall into
the pillow of your sturdy chest
laying my left ear against your heart
thud,
thud
like the rigid flaps of angel wings
