The QUT Guild has announced that the Kelvin Grove Post Office will permanently close its doors at 5pm on Thursday, 19 June 2025. The decision comes after extensive consultation with Australia Post and follows a broader trend of postal service digitisation and network consolidation.
In a statement provided to Glass Magazine, the Guild explained that market saturation and financial viability were key factors in the decision to cease operations. While acknowledging the impact on students, staff, and the broader university community, the Guild emphasised that this move would allow for greater investment in student-focused initiatives.
Stephanie Quintal, head of commercial operations recently shared “As postal services continue to digitise, Australia Post has been actively consolidating its network to sustain the viability of key outlets. Unfortunately, we have felt the impact of market saturation, and while this decision was not made lightly, it has become clear that the Post Office is no longer a viable operation for the Guild,”. “While this was a difficult decision, it allows us to redirect our resources towards initiatives that make a bigger impact on student life.”
To support those affected by the closure, the Guild is ensuring that information about alternative postal outlets is readily available. A document from Australia Post outlining nearby services has been displayed at the Post Office, and notifications will be sent via email and social media.
The Guild has also indicated a renewed focus on enhancing student experiences through its commercial venues, particularly Botanic and Grove Bars, with plans for expanded events and increased reinvestment in student programs.
For any inquiries regarding the closure, students and staff are encouraged to contact commercial@qutguild.com or reach out to Australia Post on 13 76 78.
