Hello everyone, I am Milani Rawlinson, and I am running for the role of 2024 Environment Officer. I am a passionate Environmental Science student, with a depth of knowledge in all things Ecological. I believe I would be an informed environment officer because of my studies, and the practice I have in diplomacy and policy due to my previous role as Environmental Captain at Sunshine Beach State High School (SBSHS 2023), and my involvement in Model United Nations. I am incredibly passionate about volunteering, and I am a Queen Scout with Scouts Queensland. I am also very passionate about the wellbeing of my peers, community, and environment and how these components interact. I have spent many hours in 2023 volunteering with the Guild and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would love to further develop my ability to help people and the environment through this position as I believe I can make a genuine difference through this role.

My plan of action if I attain the position is to encourage and assist with developing a functioning QUT Community Garden to improve student wellbeing on campus, assist the food bank, and bring green living to students and members of the community. Another action I believe would help the environment would be to educate the QUT community about the importance nature has on the wellbeing of people. This would be achieved by placing signs throughout the campus that display information on the native species at QUT and their importance, and small messages about mental health to take a moment to reflect. I believe these initiatives would help the community understand the importance of green areas and mental health to boost overall morale on campus. Overall, I thank everyone at the Guild for improving our university experience and for providing me with the opportunity to run for the position of Environment Officer. I would make the most of an opportunity to use my environmental science knowledge and diplomatic skills to listen to the voice of the community and advocate for the environment to influence the decisions made by the Student Council. My primary goal in this role is to ensure that our experience while studying at QUT is as prosperous and ecologically friendly as possible.
