I am Lucy (Lanhui Sun), a master’s student majoring in digital communication. Engagement strategies are a key aspect of my studies, which is one of the reasons I applied for the role of Engagement Officer and why I am passionate about this area.

Firstly, before presenting my engagement plans, I would like to highlight several key elements of engagement: familiarity, interaction, and re-creation. For example, a traditional costume performance festival can effectively combine these three elements. This event can be organized by student clubs, such as the Indian Student Club and the Indigenous Student Unit. Each participating club can be encouraged to provide two or three types of traditional clothing. Students who share their cosplay on social media with specific hashtags would have the opportunity to wear these costumes for free. Our staff could then reshare these posts on our social media platforms. Additionally, we could set up a prize for the most popular performance based on the highest number of likes, with the winner receiving a special gift package. Moreover, my previous experience in organizing an offline reading club and managing Youth Volunteer Association Organization Department during my undergraduate studies has equipped me with the planning skills necessary for this role.

Secondly, when I envision the future of the Guild, I see it as an institution that combines effective management and services. Guild serves as a bridge connecting different colleges, students, and the university, making student-led management effective. To enhance students’ wellbeing, providing necessary services is a key mission for the Guild. However, I believe our media communication and transformative efforts need improvement. Social media are not being fully utilized to promote activities and increase engagement.

Lastly, students need to care about this election because it has the potential to improve their wellbeing and university experience.
