The 2019 Matilda Awards

Last night, the Matilda Awards took place at the Powerhouse Theatre. The Matilda Awards honoured exceptional achievements in Queensland theatre over the past year. Queensland’s performing arts scene is alive and thriving. It was an honour to watch so many talented performers, backstage and production crew receive awards for their work in 2019.

“[These awards] are a chance to celebrate the quality and diversity of the state’s theatre scene, and the impressive vitality and breadth of this year’s nominees and winners”

– Leanne Enoch MP, Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, Minister for Science and Minister for the Arts.

A new category of award was introduced this year as ‘The Backstage Award’. This will come to be known as the ‘Creative Industries Backstage Award’ as it is sponsored by QUT’s Creative Industries department. Out of 23 nominations for this award, Tanya Malouf was announced as the 2019 winner for her work as a tour producer with ArTour.

The rest of the award nominees and winners can be found on the Matilda Awards website.
